Partial Care for Teens in NJ
What Is a Teen Partial Hospitalization Program?
A Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured outpatient level of care designed for adolescents who may benefit from more support than weekly therapy sessions can offer.
Our adolescent mental health PHP treats conditions like anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders, including co-occurring disorders. PHP care is full-day treatment, delivered five days a week. Teens return to the comfort of home at the end of each treatment day.
Full-Day Teen Treatment
Mental Health PHP for Adolescents.
PHP, sometimes called partial care for teens, is positioned between inpatient mental health treatment and a part-time intensive outpatient program (IOP). Mental health PHP is a popular choice for teens because it delivers a full-time treatment schedule without the need for overnight stays.
Mental Health PHP Can Be a Good Fit For Teens Who:
- Live with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health challenges
- Have been unable to make the desired progress in weekly or biweekly therapy
- Do not have a mental health diagnosis yet, but have symptoms that affect quality of life
- Have a primary mental health diagnosis that also includes some substance use
A Day in TEEN PHP CARE
Structure and Support for Growth and Change.
The PHP treatment day brings multiple therapeutic and clinical elements into one organized rhythm. These include individual as well as group therapy and other activities designed to promote personal growth and change.
Our mission at Hidden Brook is not to simply relieve symptoms while your teen is in our care. It is to help them understand their own condition and instill in them the tools and knowledge they need to manage strong emotions and continue their progress long after their time here is over.
INDIVIDUALIZED CARE
Teen PHP That Feels Personal.
More structure does not mean less individuality. Teen mental health treatment planning considers co-occurring conditions, previous treatment experiences, family or relationship dynamics, practical responsibilities, and the supports your teenager will rely on outside the program. The level of care may also be reviewed as progress and needs change. Treatment at Hidden Brook progresses as your teen does.
WHAT COMES NEXT
PHP is One Step, Not the Entire Journey.
The adolescent partial care program (PHP) at Hidden Brook offers the highest level of outpatient teen mental health treatment available. But it is only one component in a comprehensive treatment plan for teens living with depression, anxiety, and other conditions.
After full-time PHP care is complete, most of the teens we care for transition to our intensive outpatient program (IOP), where they continue care on a part-time schedule. IOP treatment is offered three days per week, for about 3 hours a day (~9 hours a week total).
Every teenager who completes treatment at Hidden Brook receives a personalized aftercare and discharge plan which provides a road map for what’s next. Each plan is designed to guide teens and their parents or guardians toward support, from continued outpatient counseling to medication management and more.
Bridging Treatment and Coverage: Navigate Insurance with Ease
At Hidden Brook, we recognize that the path to recovery is both a personal and financial journey. We’re committed to guiding you through the process of securing the right coverage for your teen’s treatment needs.
What Parents Ask About Adolescent PHP
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
PHP, also called partial care, is full-time day treatment offered five days a week. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is part-time, three days a week for about 3 hours each day. This leaves more room for school and other responsibilities to be reintroduced.
How do I know whether PHP is the right level of care?
A clinical assessment reviews current stability, symptoms, and support needs to recommend the appropriate level of care.
Does PHP include therapy?
Yes, individual and group therapeutic support are core parts of a PHP treatment day.
Can PHP address both mental health and substance use concerns?
Yes, we treat co-occurring substance use disorders at Hidden Brook, provided the mental health diagnosis is primary, they do not require a medical detox or residential treatment, and are clinically appropriate for our program. Mental health and substance use care is coordinated as one connected treatment plan.
Can someone transition from PHP to IOP?
Yes, transitioning to IOP is a common next step as your teen makes progress in treatment and needs less structure.
What happens after PHP?
We build a continuing-care plan before the final day, connecting you with the appropriate next level of support.
